Log time by hand

Forgot to start the timer, or worked away from your computer? You can add time by hand. This article shows you where and how.

note

Your workspace decides whether members can add time by hand. If manual time entry is off, you'll see "Manual time entry is off in this workspace. Use the timer to track your time." Managers, owners and admins can always add time by hand.

Log time on a task

  1. Open the task.
  2. Click the clock icon next to the task title (Log time manually). To log time on a subtask, use the clock icon on that subtask's row.
  3. Fill in the form:
    • Duration, for example 1h 30m.
    • Date the work happened.
    • Start and End times (optional). If you change the start, the end moves to keep the duration. If you change the end, the duration updates.
    • Notes (optional), what you worked on.
  4. Click Save.

The manual time form open under a task title, with Duration, Date, Start, End and Notes fields and the Save button.

When the button says "Request approval"

Sometimes the button reads Request approval instead of Save. This happens when:

  • your workspace requires approval for manual time, or
  • the time would go over the task's approved hours. The form shows a line like "30m over approved — needs approval".

Your time is not lost. It goes to an approver, and you can follow it on the Your Adjustments page in My Tasks & Requests. See Track your requests.

When you still have hours, the form shows how much is left, for example "2h left of approved".

Log time from Timesheets

Open Timesheets and stay on the Personal tab:

  • In the Table view, type hours straight into a day's cell.
  • In the Schedule view, click an empty gap in the day. A Log time window opens with the date and times filled in. Pick the task, add an optional note, and click Save (or Submit for approval).

"Does this look right?"

TaskFlow asks you to double-check before saving when:

  • a single entry is 12 hours or more;
  • the day would go over 24 hours in total;
  • the end time is earlier than the start, so the entry runs past midnight.

This is only a check. Click Go back and edit to fix it, or Log it anyway if it is correct.
