Pause and resume a request (manager)

This article shows you how to put a task request on hold when you can't decide yet, and how to bring it back later. Maybe you're waiting on a client brief, a budget, or someone back from holiday. Pausing is better than leaving the request in the queue or rejecting it.

Pause is available in every workspace, to anyone who can approve task requests there. It works on new task requests that are waiting for approval.

Pause a request

  1. Open the request from Tasks & Approvals.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Pause (next to Reject Request and Request Changes).
  3. Type why it's on hold. A reason is required.
  4. Click Pause Request.

What happens while it's paused

  • The requester gets a notification with your reason. The task shows a Request Paused box with who paused it, when, and why.
  • A paused request hasn't been rejected. Nothing about it is lost.
  • It leaves the approval queue and doesn't count as waiting.
  • No time can be tracked on it, not even if it's marked Urgent.
  • The requester can still edit it or cancel it. It stays paused until someone resumes it.

Find paused requests

Paused requests are hidden from Tasks & Approvals by default. To see them, open the status filter and tick Paused.

Resume a request

  1. Open the paused request.
  2. In the Request Paused box, click Resume.

The request goes back to Pending. You can then approve it, reject it or request changes as usual. See Approve, reject or request changes.
